New Records!

I’ve gotten more new records over the past couple of months.

Spotify Playlist: April 2021

If you’re on Spotify, take a listen to my playlist for April 2021. This month I compiled a bunch of my favorite hip-hop and rap songs. It was difficult to limit the list to roughly 3 hours, but I think I’ve got a good bunch of songs here. (Best listened to on shuffle.)

Ant-Man

I love Ant-Man, so I definitely had to paint a portrait of him. So, here’s Ant-Man (Scott Lang), played by Paul Rudd! Ant-Man (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Spotify Playlist: March 2021

If you’re on Spotify, take a listen to my playlist for March 2021. This one has a lot of dance-inspired songs on it from the 90s and 2000s, mostly. (Best listened to on shuffle.)

Thor

I love the colors in this portrait I did of Thor Odinson (played by Chris Hemsworth). Thor (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Beverly Crusher

For my third painting in my Star Trek: The Next Generation series, I painted my favorite character, Dr. Beverly Crusher (played by Gates McFadden). Beverly Crusher (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Eddie Vedder

I’m happy with how this portrait of Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam turned out! I’m hoping to add more to my Seattle band frontmen series in the next couple of months. Eddie Vedder (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

The New Detectives

I just finished up re-watching The New Detectives! Now that it’s fresh in my brain, let’s go into another true crime review.

Iron Man

I did something a little different with this painting of Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man (Tony Stark). The background is metallic gold, and I painted in the larger circle pattern in the background rather than using a sponge to apply the pattern. It took me quite a while to finish this one, but I’m […]

Robert Smith

I had so much fun painting Robert Smith of The Cure!

Rey

It took me way longer than I expected to find a good source photo of Rey (Star Wars) to work from. I finally did, and I’m in love with how this painting turned out! I decided to paint the background yellow as a nod to her lightsaber color from the end of Star Wars: The […]

Björk

I bought some neon acrylic paints a few weeks ago and I was itching to use them, but I wasn’t sure who to paint with them. Then, it dawned on me – Björk! I had a lot of fun with this one. I used several colors and played around with stencils and textures, and I […]

William Riker

For my second Star Trek: The Next Generation painting, I painted William T. Riker, played by Jonathan Frakes. William Riker (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Tori Amos

Years ago, I painted a portrait of Tori Amos, but it didn’t turn out very well. This time around, however, I’m much happier with the results! Tori Amos (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Chris Cornell

I painted this portrait of Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, etc.) and used a sunburst color theme because I felt like it captured the power of his voice. He’s one of my all-time favorite vocalists, and Superunknown got me through a really, really rough time in my life. I miss him. […]

Data

I painted my first Star Trek painting – Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The best part? I posted it on Twitter and Brent Spiner “liked” it. Data (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Tracks: AC/DC “Highway to Hell” Alabama Shakes “Don’t Wanna Fight” alt-J “Left Hand Free” Arctic Monkeys “Do I Wanna Know?” Audioslave “Like a […]

George Michael

The application of color in my painting of George Michael (of Wham! and solo fame) is pretty subtle, but I didn’t want to distract from the beauty of the composition of the source photograph I based my painting off of. George Michael (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

New Records!

I’ve gotten a lot of new records over the past couple of months. Nine Inch Nails “Closer”

I just wanted to wax poetic about one of my favorite music videos, and share the cool behind-the-scenes footage I completely forgot existed.

Bono

U2 was one of those bands that defined my childhood. My older sister was (and is) a huge U2 fan and we listened to their albums so much in the 80s and 90s. She had a Joshua Tree calendar in 1987, and we just kept it up for several years because…well, why not. (Funny thing […]

Harley Quinn

I finished up this commission last week for a friend of mine. It’s Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. This was actually the second attempt. The first attempt was OK, but I wasn’t completely happy with it, so I redid it and I’m much happier with it, now. If you’re interested in a […]

Hawkeye

I had a long weekend and finished a couple of paintings. The first is this one – Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye (Clint Barton). Hawkeye (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Freddie Mercury

Marilyn Monroe

“I think you’re the saddest girl I’ve ever met.” I finished up this portrait of Marilyn Monroe recently, and I really love how it turned out. Marilyn Monroe (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Black Widow

I made a first attempt at painting Black Widow a few weeks ago, but it ended up not looking like her at all. So, I tried again with a different photo to work from and I think this one is much better. Black Widow (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy […]

Alex Kapranos

It’s been a while since I’ve made any Franz Ferdinand-related art, so I decided to paint a portrait of frontman Alex Kapranos. Alex Kapranos (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Trent Reznor

Last week I finished this painting of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. The background is a little Russell Mills-inspired, too. I’m really happy with this one! Trent Reznor (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

I finished up this painting of Harrison Ford as Han Solo from Star Wars a couple weekends ago. I’m pretty happy with it! Han Solo (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Pineapple

My friend Amanda has a little tiki bar in her house and commissioned me to paint a pineapple for her. I wasn’t sure if it would work well in this style of painting because most non-human subjects don’t work, but this pineapple did! I think the unique texture helped a lot. Pineapple (Acrylic on canvas; […]

Special Agent Dale Cooper

Twin Peaks is one of my all-time favorite television shows, and Special Agent Dale Cooper (played by Kyle MacLachlan) is such an endearing and strange character that I adore. I had to paint him, obviously! The zig-zag design in the background is a nod to the Red Room and Black/White Lodges. Special Agent Dale Cooper […]

Scarlet Witch

I painted a portrait of Scarlet Witch and used pink and red as a nod to her comic book superhero attire. I can’t wait for WandaVision to debut on the 15th! Scarlet Witch (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Black Panther

I absolutely had to paint a portrait of Black Panther/T’Challa. It was a tough one, mainly because I was constantly reminded of the heartbreak of Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020. I hope I captured his kindness, his determination, and his power. Black Panther (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, […]

Din Djarin (The Mandalorian)

The only downside with painting in this particular style is that I need the right type of image to work from. I’m essentially playing with shadows and light, so human faces work best for that since facial features show up better than smooth surfaces or unusual surfaces. That’s the problem I ran into when I […]

Finn

I had such a fun time painting this portrait of Finn from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! I love Finn so much. Finn (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Another muse of mine is Kurt Cobain, and I felt I needed to paint him again. I love this one. I also paint him in green a lot – not sure why? Nirvana has been one of my all-time favorite bands since I was a teenager. Kurt Cobain (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 8″) It’s […]

Falcon

I’m super excited for Falcon & The Winter Soldier to debut on Disney+ next year! I love Sam Wilson, and I’m excited to see him and Bucky together. Of course, I had to paint Sam. Falcon (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Vice Admiral Holdo

I had an absolute blast painting Vice Admiral Holdo from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The draped fabric was a challenge, but it was a fun one. Vice Admiral Holdo (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Winter Soldier

I finished a painting of Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I’m really happy with this one! Winter Soldier (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Captain America

Captain America! This is actually version two – I made a first attempt by adding in a minimalistic shield, and I wasn’t happy with how it turned out, so I did a second painting. I’m much happier with this one! Captain America (Acrylic on canvas; 5″ x 8″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

General Hux

Of course, I had to paint General Hux from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. General Hux (Acrylic on canvas; 6″ x 6″) He’s brooding on the bridge of the Supremacy among the stars. Fitting. It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Siouxsie Sioux

My first portrait of a musician since I started painting again! This time it’s Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Siouxsie Sioux (Acrylic on canvas; 6″ x 6″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Poe Dameron

No surprise to anyone, I had to paint Poe Dameron from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Poe Dameron (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Princess Leia

I painted a portrait of Princess Leia from Star Wars: A New Hope and I think it turned out pretty lovely! Princess Leia (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!

Kylo Ren

After a very long hiatus of not doing any kind of painting (other than costume props), I’m finally painting again. It feels really good to get back into it! My first painting is of Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.Kylo Ren (Acrylic on canvas; 8″ x 10″) I’m so pleased with how this […]

David Bowie

I did another quick little illustration, and this time it’s of David Bowie (from the cover of Aladdin Sane). I have this available as a sticker in my Etsy shop. I may add it to other items in the future, though.

Small But Mighty

After years and years of pretty much just focusing on making costumes and cross-stitch, I’m getting back to my roots and have started painting, drawing, and designing again. I forgot how much I loved doing this. One of my recent little doodles was of Grogu (AKA “Baby Yoda,” AKA “The Child,” AKA “The Asset”) from […]

Spotify Playlist: December 2020

If you’re on Spotify, take a listen to my playlist for December 2020. This ended up being more of a melancholy winter/holiday theme, kind of a downer playlist. I guess it seems fitting for 2020. (Best listened to on shuffle.) Tracks: Adele “When We Were Young” Annie Lennox “A Whiter Shade of Pale” Aztec Camera […]

New Records!

Life during a pandemic has been strange, to say the least. The hardest thing for me is that I haven’t had anything to look forward to. That’s what keeps me going, normally: seeing friends, going to concerts, going to conventions, checking out museums, etc. Without that, every day is exactly the same. My boyfriend, Dane, […]

LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special

Have you watched the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special on Disney+? I watched it last Tuesday and it’s adorable and everything I wanted. I’m a weirdo who likes the original Star Wars Holiday Special in all of its steaming-pile-of-Bantha-dung glory. When we’re not in the middle of a pandemic, the Minnesota Force hosts an event […]

Tracks: ACTORS “Bury Me” Anders Manga “Welcome to Darkness” Annie Lennox “I Put a Spell on You” Ash Code “Empty Room” Bauhaus “Bela Lugosi is Dead” The […]

Behind Mansion Walls

I finished watching the latest true crime series I’ve been binging: Behind Mansion Walls. Now you’re going to hear all about it. Lucky you. The title screen. Swanky. Behind Mansion Walls aired from 2011 through 2013 on Investigation Discovery, but I’ve been watching it through the True Crime Files channel on Amazon Prime. The series […]

Forensic Files

To say I love watching true crime television, documentaries, and reading books is an understatement. Like, a really huge understatement. I started watching true crime television back in the early 2000s when it was on Court TV, and at that time there weren’t too many different shows. I don’t know what initially drew me in, […]

#BiWeek

September 16-23 is #BiWeek! Throughout #BiWeek, allies and bi+ people learn about the history, culture, community, and current policy priorities of bi+ communities. I’ve only been “out” for a few years, but I’ve been bi my whole life, so I’d be happy to answer questions or provide resources if you’ve got questions. And no questions […]

Spotify Playlist: September 2020

If you’re on Spotify, take a listen to my playlist for September 2020. It’s sort of a mellow playlist. Good for rainy days and drinking coffee! (Best listened to on shuffle.) Tracks: !!! “Must be the Moon” Algiers “The Underside of Power” alt-J “Tessellate” Arcade Fire “Reflektor” The Avalanches “Frontier Psychiatrist” Battle Tapes “Belgrade” Billie Eilish “bad guy” Bishop […]

Starbucky Coffee

I received a superautomatic espresso machine for Christmas and I jokingly dubbed my home “Starbucky Coffee,” but then it kind of took off and I created a Facebook page for it. So, I had to create a logo for it, obviously. It’s a play on Starbucks Coffee and Bucky Barnes. For this being a silly […]

Blood Nocturne

I created the postcard and a web banner for The Winding Sheet Outfit‘s production of “Blood Nocturne.”

Blue Sage Bees

I created the logo image for Blue Sage Bees. I drew it freehand, and then scanned it into my computer and cleaned it up in Photoshop and Illustrator.

Cross-Stitch Patterns: The Room

One of my all-time favorite bad movies is The Room. There are so many fantastic quotes, so I made a few patterns using some of my favorites. I’ll definitely be making more in the future. These patterns are free to download! Although, if you post it anywhere, please link back to either Records & Rebellion […]

ChromAtics

I designed a logo for the ChromAtics to use on their Facebook page and to print on clothing.

Mum’s Remembrance

On August 17, 2017, my mum passed away from cancer. That’s an entire post in itself, but for her celebration of life ceremony, I designed double-sided cards for people to take as keepsakes. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I think she would have liked it, too.

The Memory Box of the Sisters Fox

I designed the postcard and a web banner for The Winding Sheet Outfit‘s production of “The Memory Box of the Sisters Fox.” This was such a fun project to work on!

Cross-Stitch Pattern: Who Talks First?

I recently downloaded an awesome app for my iPad called Stitch Sketch, and I’ve been making my own patterns. I’m also been a little (okay, that’s an understatement) obsessed with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I made a pattern based on the initial confrontation between Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren. It’s free to download! […]

More New Work

Hi everyone! I finally got around to taking photos of my recent work. Cheap & CheerfulWatercolor, Ink2014 This one started as an ink line drawing, and then I filled in the shapes with watercolor. I’m pretty sure I used every color in my paint palette. MovementWatercolor, Ink2014 This was a really fun one to do. […]

I’m Not Dead!

I know, it seems like I’ve died. I swear I haven’t given up on my creativity. Life has been happening and unfortunately keeping my blogs up to date falls to the bottom of my “to do” list (underneath “sleeping” and “petting cats,” I guess). I haven’t been doing much for graphic design lately, but I’ve […]

Mach FoX “Planktoon Mixes”

Mark of Mach FoX asked me to create an album cover for the latest release, “Planktoon Mixes.” He sent me the artwork that was designed by another artist, and then some video distortion effects were added, as well as the text. It turned out pretty awesome.

Stranded & Company

My friend Susan makes incredibly beautiful jewelry, and she asked me to design a logo for her Etsy shop, Stranded & Company. I also designed a business card, a banner for her shop, and some stickers. Her shop is on hiatus for the time being, as she’s busy with her adorable baby. Add Stranded & […]

Cat Party

This summer I was in a music video for the local band, Koo Koo Kanga Roo. It was for their song “Cat Party,” and I brought along Oreo for the shoot. She was really well behaved, considering she was around unfamiliar cats and put up with me dancing with her and holding her for about […]

Jack: One Week Later

It’s been a week since Jack’s surgery, and he’s doing very well! I gave him his last dose of pain medication on Sunday evening. He’s probably pretty happy I don’t have to pin him down and squirt medicine into his mouth. If it tastes anything like Robitussin, then I can totally feel his pain. Blech. […]

Jack’s Surgery

Yesterday Jack had his dental surgery. I dropped him off at around 8:00 AM and was a nervous wreck all day. Not that I thought anything bad would happen, I just worried. You know, like “moms” do. He had x-rays taken, and 14 of his teeth were extracted in addition to the two that fell […]

Jack’s Fluffy Fundraiser

Last Friday I took Jack to the vet because I noticed he had a loose tooth. He was licking at his mouth like he had something stuck in his teeth, so that’s when I looked in his mouth and saw that one of his incisors was practically hanging out of his gums. Other than the […]

Stitching!

With many of my hobbies, I go in phases where I focus on one particular hobby for a while, and then move on to another hobby. It definitely keeps me from getting sick of anything. In November and December, I did a lot of cross-stitching projects that I gave away as gifts for Christmas. My […]

COLORS Exhibit Opening Night

The opening night reception for the COLORS exhibit at Gamut Gallery went really well! There was a great turnout — the gallery seemed to be full of people the entire evening. I can’t say enough how honored I am to be part of a show with so many fantastic artists. I love so many of […]

Wham! My Birthday!

I decided to celebrate turning 32 by having my birthday party at Brunswick Zone (basically, it’s like Chuck E. Cheese and Gameworks had a baby) with a bunch of my friends. We’re all big kids anyway, so it was super fun. The highlight, though, was the cake my friends Lauren and Amber got for me. […]

COLORS Exhibit

Exciting news! Two of my works will be part of the COLORS exhibit at Gamut Gallery in Downtown Minneapolis! These are brand-new pieces I created this year. Opening reception is August 24th from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. The exhibit runs through October 20th. Click here to see the Facebook event. Other artists in the […]

44 Plays Presidential Art Gallery

During the run of Theatre Pro Rata‘s production of “44 Plays for 44 Presidents,” there was a Presidential Art Gallery on display that featured each of the 44 presidents created by different artists. I created a portrait of Ronald Reagan. I made a collage of images from the 1980s — everything from the tearing-down of […]

Give Up The Ghost

A few months ago, my friend Lauren called to say she had bought a ticket for me to see Radiohead with her and her fiance, Kevin, in Chicago. It was like being told I just won the lottery. You see, I’ve been wanting to see Radiohead since, oh, 1996 or so. They’re my all-time favorite […]

44 Plays For 44 Presidents

Presenting the postcard design for Theatre Pro Rata‘s production of “44 Plays for 44 Presidents.” This may be the most patriotic design I’ve ever done. Holy spangles, Batman.

Record Store Day 2012

It’s not an official holiday, but it should be. Record Store Day is officially my favorite day of the year. Last year I ventured out alone, but this year I was joined by Jonathan. It was his first RSD. Hooray! We went to two record stores — Electric Fetus and Roadrunner Records. Neither of us […]

Save The Date

Theatre Pro Rata asked me to design a “Save The Date” postcard for their first annual Spring Gala Fundraiser.

Foxygene “Panic Button”

This is the album cover design for Foxygene’s album, “Panic Button.” It’s a remake of the album cover for Jean Michel Jarre’s “Oxygene.” I had so much fun designing this one.

T Bone N Weasel

This is the postcard I designed for Theatre Pro Rata‘s production of T Bone N Weasel by Jon Klein. It opens on March 3rd, so if you’re in the Twin Cities area, you should check it out! This was a really fun postcard to design.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I painted this for my sister for Christmas 2011. She admires Martin Luther King, Jr. a lot, and had mentioned wanting to commission a painting. I figured, hey, why not just paint it for her for Christmas? The background consists of pages torn from a book of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speeches. The book also […]

Dorothy Parker

Here’s another commissioned painting — this time, of writer Dorothy Parker. The background was created by using torn pages from a book of Dorothy Parker poetry, and “aged” by using chalk.

MSRP “Missile Squirrel Vs. Robo Panda”

It’s always fun to design something when the instructions are to “be as ridiculous and obnoxious as possible.” The concept for this album cover was to create adorable animals that had some sort of badass special ability and could face off. The illustrations were my creations, too. I can’t take credit for thinking of “missile […]

Cat’s Paw

I designed this postcard for Theatre Pro Rata‘s production of Cat’s Paw by William Mastrosimone.

Bowl With The Boss

TCF Bank has a yearly event to raise money for charity, and one of the events is to donate money to play lawn bowling with one of the executives. This flyer was designed to be inserted into the invitation to the event.

Franz Ferdinand Fan Club Issue #7

The seventh issue of the Franz Ferdinand Fan Club magazine has been out for some time (you can view the entire issue here) but this is the cover I designed for it. I’ve been a bit obsessed with grey lately.
