The only downside with painting in this particular style is that I need the right type of image to work from. I’m essentially playing with shadows and light, so human faces work best for that since facial features show up better than smooth surfaces or unusual surfaces. That’s the problem I ran into when I decided I wanted to paint Din Djarin from Star Wars’ The Mandalorian. Helmets just don’t work well with this style, and he spends most of both seasons of the show with his helmet on. Luckily, there were a few scenes where he removed his helmet, and that’s what I used for my source image for this painting of him.

It’s available as a print in my Etsy shop, too!
