I know, it seems like I’ve died. I swear I haven’t given up on my creativity. Life has been happening and unfortunately keeping my blogs up to date falls to the bottom of my “to do” list (underneath “sleeping” and “petting cats,” I guess). I haven’t been doing much for graphic design lately, but I’ve been doing a lot more artwork. Here are some pieces I’ve finished recently:

I’ll take a better photo eventually, but this is a painting of my cat Jack that I created to hang over the TV in my living room. I don’t often display my own artwork (I’d much rather display other people’s artwork) but I thought it might be nice to pay homage to one of my furry pals. The downside is that Jack’s ego has blown up to epic proportions and now he thinks he’s a celebrity.

I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind Of Thing
Medium: Canvas, Acrylic, Embroidery Thread, Yarn, Buttons, Clothespins, Twine
2014

This is one of those pieces that I spent an extremely long time creating, and when it was finally finished I wasn’t even sure if I liked it. In fact, I’m still not sure if I like it.

Damaged Goods
Medium: Acrylic, Tissue Paper
2014

This was an incredibly fun piece to make. I basically drenched pieces of tissue paper in Mod Podge and “painted” with it on a canvas-board. I love the texture. It’s hard to see from the photo, but in person it has a lot of fun texture.

Feeling Kind Of Anxious
Medium: Acrylic, Glitter
2013

This was probably one of the most fun pieces I’ve ever created. I painted this geometric design with acrylic, and then adhered matching glitter to each section. I got glitter everywhere, but it was totally worth it.

She’s Lost Control
Medium: Acrylic, Sequins, Rhinestones
2014

Sticking with the “craft supplies used in fine art” theme, I painted a geometric rainbow circle design and filled it in with matching sequins. It took forever to do, but the end result is pretty cool (and shiny). I’m just glad I had tweezers.

Kurious Oranj
Medium: Watercolor, Tissue Paper
2014

As you can see, I’ve been into using tissue paper in my artwork lately. I love that it’s sort of like watercolor because it’s semi-transparent.

Stand On The Horizon
Medium: Watercolor, Tissue Paper
2014

Another piece in the same vein as Kurious Oranj, but with a wider variety of color.

High Fidelity
Medium: Record Sleeves, 45 RPM Record, Cardboard, Tissue Paper, Buttons, Plastic, Metal
2013

I’m an avid collector of vinyl, and I have boxes full of 45 RPM records. Needless to say, I have extra sleeves and a pile of records that unfortunately skip and aren’t playable. I didn’t want to throw them away, so I hung onto a few of them for the sake of art. I finally decided to make something with one of the records and a bunch of the sleeves, and this is the result. I used a bunch of other things to create a turntable collage. It’s kind of silly, I guess, but I like it.

So, as you can see, I haven’t been idle. I have more pieces completed, but I just need to take decent photos of them. I hope to keep this blog updated more often than I have the past few years, so check back often!
